Matrix PDO Threads are another method of tightening and thickening skin. They are a type of single PDO filament, are smooth and made from Polydioxanone. Matrix PDO Threads are inserted into the sub dermal level, in a mesh-like pattern, to promote the creation of new collagen. The threads activate collagen synthesis which produces a gradual skin thickening, skin tightening and rejuvenation effect.
The threads become a support structure that allows collagen production to increase. Results may be seen in 6 weeks and will continue to improve over 2 to 6 months. While the threads slowly dissolve, their effects may last up to 12 months. It is a proven non-surgical method to subtly tighten and rejuvenate sagging skin on the face, jawline and neck.
Mono threads area a type of single PDO filament. These threads are smooth and made without barbs which are minimally invasive. The threads are inserted into the skin in mesh like pattern to achieve maximum tightening effects. After entering the skin, the threads activate collagen synthesis for a gradual skin tightening effect.
Double screw threads have 1-2 interwined threads which provide volume to the treated area for patients who only desire skin tightening and rejuvenation.
After receiving a topical anaesthetic, PDO threads will be inserted using a micro-needle or cannula. The treatment is a very customised procedure. You will begin to see results in 6 weeks which continue to improve over the next 2 to 6 month as new collagen is produced. The threads will slowly dissolve however you’ll continue to see results for up to 12 month. The time for your procedure will vary however typically it ranges between 30-60 minutes.
The results are visible but gentle and the procedure is ideal for those wanting an improvement without the expense, downtime and risks associated with invasive facelift surgery. It can be used alone or in combination with fillers, anti-wrinkle injections, and laser to significantly improve the result you are looking for.
Most cosmetic thread therapies are employed for the cheek area but other areas may also be treated. Duration of results will highly depend on the integrity of the tissue into which the threads are placed. Besides, the number of threads used will also determine the longevity of your thread lifting results. Few threads in poor tissue will definitely not give as long an effect as more threads in good quality tissue.
Over time the thread stimulates production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin producing a longer lasting structural framework.
It is best to avoid medications and supplements which, have a blood thinning effect for at least 1-2 weeks before treatment. These can include aspirin, multi-vitamins and omega fish oils. Like most injectable treatments this is the case to reduce the risk of bleeding, resulting in the appearance of bruises.
There may be some swelling and bruising after either procedure but the degree will generally be much less with thread lifting. Some patients may be able to go straight back to work but we would normally recommend a few quiet days afterwards.
Pre-Treatment Instructions:
Post-Treatment Instructions:
In most cases, you are able to return to normal daily activities the day after your procedure. There are no visible scars, however, you may experience some redness, swelling and bruising after the procedure which will subside within 48 hours. Bruising and redness can be concealed with makeup.
The effects of a thread lift usually last for about 18 months but this does vary (12-24 months) depending on the individual. Use of fillers and anti-wrinkle injections will enhance the result and may prolong the effect.
Side effects from thread lifts are uncommon.
Mild redness, bruising, swelling, pain and tenderness are expected at the sites of the threads, however, these are usually only mild and subside over a few days. Pain and tenderness are controlled with simple oral medication (paracetamol, ibuprofen or similar).
There can be some initial puckering of the skin, but this usually resolves spontaneously over a few days to a week.
Infection is uncommon but is the main complication. If you experience significant pain, tenderness, redness or swelling after the procedure we will assess you and you may require oral antibiotics.
Threads should not be used in case of: Autoimmune diseases, pregnancy and breast feeding, known allergies to foreign bodies or implants, active infection.
The procedure takes approximately 30-60 minutes including treatment planning and patient preparation, however this depends on the number of threads
Minimal discomfort as local anaesthetic is provided prior to the procedure.
