How It Works
Laser hair removal works by emitting a single wavelength of light which targets the pigment in the hair.
The energy from the light is then converted to heat which destroys the hair, effectively disabling the hairs ability to grow.
We use Candela Gentlelase Laser which produces 755nm wavelength and the Cynosure Vectus laser which produces 810nm wavelength.
This is the most advanced laser hair removal technology available, which safely delivers superior results and faster treatment times.
Safe enough for the most sensitive areas, such as a Brazilian, the laser hair removal lasers also feature a unique Dynamic Cooling Device to soothe the skin and counteract the heat of the laser
Results
Hair Grows in 3 stages – Anagen (growth Stage), Catagen (transition stage) & Telogen (resting Stage). During the growth stage the hair is connected to the root and is growing. It then disconnects from the root and transitions into the resting phase.
During the laser hair removal treatment, only the hairs that are in the growth stage will be destroyed permanently as they are the only ones that are connected to the root.
At any one time, on average only about 10-15% of your body hairs are in the growth stage which is why multiple treatments are required to achieve a permanent result.
On average 6-12 treatments are required for most clients. The main factors affecting results are age, skin type and hair colour.
Generally, the darker and thicker the hair means more heat can be generated destroying the hair quicker. Older clients generally get better results, requiring less treatments as it’s much easier to damage the hair permanently because your natural body repair ability decreases.

Pre & Post Care
After your hair removal session at one of our Melbourne clinics, gently apply the laser aid gel to the treated area twice a day. Redness is unlikely to last more than 2 days, although in isolated instances it may be longer.
The redness is a natural response and you need not be concerned about it as the daily application of a post care product will soothe the skin and reduce inflammation.
Until redness has completely subsided, avoid all of the following:
- Applying make-up over the treated areas, particularly the face
- Use of scented lotions or soaps, exfoliant creams, loofa sponges and aggressive scrubbing
- Hot or cold water – wash with tepid water
- Shaving
- Swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/chlorine
- Activities that cause excessive perspiration
In the unusual case of side effects such as crusting of the skin, please contact us directly.
Strictly avoid any sun exposure for at least one week after the laser skin treatment, as the treated area will be more prone to sunburn and pigmentation change. Keep the area covered and use a sunblock with a protection factor of 30+, applied hourly while you are in the sun.
FAQ
Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?
Laser hair removal is a relatively comfortable method as compared to other methods like waxing and electrolysis. That being said, the process could cause minor discomfort for certain people.
This is completely dependent on their individual pain threshold, but is often likened to the snapping of an elastic band against their skin or a zapping sensation.
Our lasers also feature a Dynamic Cooling Device, which helps to counteract the heating effect of laser pulses with a cooling sensation.
How often do I need to get Laser hair Removal?
The usual time period between two laser hair removal sessions is anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks.
Depending upon the pace of your hair growth, you will be asked to come in for your follow-up session around this time period, so that it coincides with the growth phase of your new hair, which is when laser treatments will be most effective.
What should be the interval between Laser Hair Removal appointments?
As mentioned above, the usual gap between two sessions of laser hair removal is 4 – 6 weeks. It is recommended to adhere to this time period and not miss a session; else you risk the likelihood of missing a period of hair growth.
Laser works best when hair is the growth phase, when they absorb the light pulse due to which the hair follicles get damaged, retarding future hair growth.
What Laser Hair Removal machines do you use?
Victorian Laser & Skin Clinic uses Candela GentleLase lasers as well as the Cynosure Vectus, which are considered to be the best laser hair removal machines in the market today.
They are extremely effective for hair removal as they are able to target many follicles with a wider beam, while also being gentle on the surrounding skin tissue.
Can I still get Laser Hair Removal if I am pregnant/ breastfeeding?
While laser hair removal is generally considered safe, no studies have yet been done to ascertain its safety for pregnant or lactating mothers. It is therefore advisable to avoid getting laser hair removal while you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as there are many hormonal changes that happen in the body.
You could however, get laser treatment after a 6 – 12-month gap post pregnancy or breastfeeding, whichever is later, by which time your hormones will stabilize to earlier levels.
Can I have Laser Hair Removal over the top of tattoos?
Laser hair removals are designed to be absorbed by darker pigments over the skin’s surface, and this makes them unsafe for use over tattoos.
In fact, doing this could result in potentially disastrous consequences, with excessive absorption of the laser heat and burning or blisters, not to mention distorting the tattoo permanently.
Which areas can be treated with laser hair removal?
You can use laser on practically any body part that has unwanted hair. But it is most commonly used for removing facial hair, hair from the arms and legs, underarm areas and bikini line.
Are there any known side effects of laser hair removal?
Some people might experience redness and irritation or changes in skin colour, or even crusting, blistering and scarring.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Technology
At Victorian Laser & Skin Clinic we work only with medical-grade laser hair removal technology, to achieve permanent hair reduction of up to 95%.
We use both the Candela Gentlelase lasers and Cynosure Vectus lasers.
The Gentlelase is an Alexandrite laser which produce a wavelength of 755nm and the Vectus is a diode laser which produces a wavelength of 810nm. Both of technologies have the highest absorption rate to Melanin making them the most effective in achieving permanent laser hair removal results.
With this technology, we are able to treat all skin types including Asian and Indian skin tones. We can also select different spot sizes to treat small areas such as lip and chin; and switch to a larger spot size for faster treatment times of larger areas such as full legs or full body laser hair removal.
Our lasers emit a single concentrated light beam which is absorbed and transmitted by the pigment in the hair. This light energy is then converted into thermal energy, effectively ‘disabling’ the hair’s ability to grow.

Mal was simply the most amazing and best consultation I've ever had here! She takes great care, eases you in the process as it is a bit scary, and very professional.
