Q & A

What is Photo-Rejuvenation?
An intense light is emitted in a series of gentle pulses over the area of treatment. It is necessary to undertake a series of treatments to improve the appearance of sun damaged and ageing skin.

What areas can be treated?
Treatments can be on any part of the skin. Photo-Rejuvenation is especially effective on the face, neck, chest and hands.

What conditions can be treated with Photo-Rejuvenation?
Patients who suffer from sun damage, pigmentation, freckles, sunspots, redness, rosacea, broken capillaries as well as some birth marks, such as port wines stains.

What are the advantages over other skin rejuvenation modalities?
There are substantial visible improvements seen in the skin with minimal "downtime". In most cases, patients are able to return to normal activity immediately. Treatments are safe with a minimal risk of scarring or adverse effects. The whole face can be treated for most patients within 40 minutes.

How many treatments will I need?
Depending on the skin concern, as little as 1-2 treatments are required, but for some conditions, 4-6 treatments are recommended. A follow up treatment in 2 or more years may be required for some conditions.

Does it hurt?
Most people describe the treatment as feeling like an "elastic band flicking on the skin". After the treatment, the area may feel like a sunburn for several hours. Patients do have the option of having a topical anaesthetic applied to the area before treatment to eliminate any discomfort.

Are there any side effects?
Most side effects are mild and of short duration. There may be slight redness and/or crusting immediately following treatment, lasting less than 24 hours in most people, on rare occasions it may last up to several days.

Pre-Post Care

Pre-Treatment Care
All patients must have a consultation prior to the procedure. They must complete a general medical questionnaire on the nature of their skin. At the time of the first consultation, patients will be tested to properly evaluate the correct settings for their skin condition and skin type. These parameters will then be stored in a database and in the patients chart for future reference.

Post-Treatment Care
If needed apply ice to the face after treatment, wash with a gentle cleanser using cool water. Afterwards apply moisturiser and avoid the sun as much as you can. If you do venture out into the sun, wear a hat and make sure you apply a sunblock with a SPF of 30+ hourly.

Fact Sheets

Every time you look in the mirror does your skin look older and a little more tired? Is the effect of the sun taking its toll? Most of us, at one point or another, have thought of possibly putting a stop to, or at least slowing down the ageing process and its effect upon our skin. Well now you can, with Photo-Rejuvenation.

On a daily basis, not only do we have to contend with the natural process of ageing, but harsh environmental factors also impact upon our skin. Until recently most skin rejuvenation treatments involved a lengthy recovery period and surgery. The Photo-Rejuvenation treatment is a new sophisticated, yet simple aesthetic procedure.

Developed by Dr. Patrick Bitter Jr, this revolutionary treatment involves a series of beams of light being pulsed onto the facial area. Photo-Rejuvenation treatments clearly improve the signs of photoaging and rosacea reducing fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, telangiectasias and irregular pigmentation resulting in younger and more beautiful skin. The benefits of Photo-Rejuvenation treatments are consistent, with visible improvement in the skin with minimal discomfort and minimal recovery time. Photo-Rejuvenation is simply sophisticated beauty that is rediscovered in you.

Recovery
When following the Photo-Rejuvenation guidelines patients experience consistent visible improvement to the skin, which to date, has proved to be long lasting. Photo-Rejuvenation treatments have a great appeal because of the dramatic visual improvement to the skin, the simple nature of the treatment and most importantly the complete absence of recovery time. Patients are able to return immediately to normal activity.

Which symptoms which can be treated effectively using photo-rejuvenation?

Erythema: especially face, neck or chest: Patients can expect an average of 50-75% reduction in facial erythema after five treatments. Benefits have also continued for up to twelve months following treatments.

Flushing: Until recently there has been no effective treatment for facial, neck or chest flushing. Photo-Rejuvenation treatments are extremely effective in reducing the degree of flushing in all patients treated. Most patients report a 75% (or greater) reduction in flushing.

Rosacea: Patients with active inflammatory rosacea generally experience a considerable improvement in their symptoms after a number of Photo-Rejuvenation treatments. Most patients are able to decrease or discontinue treatments for rosacea. Although symptoms of rosacea may re-occur following treatment, most patients report 60% (or greater) improvement in their rosacea.

Photoaging and sun damage: Skin that displays fine wrinkling, freckling or irregular pigmentation from chronic sun exposure is visibly improved after a series of Photo-Rejuvenation treatments. Fine wrinkles shown an average improvement of 15-25% (or greater) after five treatments.

Pigmentation Problems: Such as brown age spots or melasma, coarse or rough appearing skin with large pores. Patients with this skin type generally experience smoother, softer skin with a visible reduction in pores after Photo-Rejuvenation treatments. Pore size improves an average of 50% (or greater).

Non Facial Sun damage: Chest, dorsal, hand, forearm and the leg can all be safely rejuvenated using the Photo-Rejuvenation procedure.

Acne Scarring: Photo-Rejuvenation treatments are effective in reducing the erythema and post-inflammatory hyper- pigmentation of acne scarring.

ADVANTAGES
Photo-Rejuvenation treatments offer several advantages over other skin rejuvenation modalities such as chemical peeling.

Photo-Rejuvenation treatments can be safely used on non-facial skin. This permits effective treatment of neck and chest erythema and photoaging of the neck, chest, forearms, shoulders and legs.
