What is RESTYLANE ?
RESTYLANE is a Non Animal Stabilised Hyaluronic Acid (NASHA). It creates volume for the treatment of lips, lines, wrinkles and facial folds. The results are immediate.

How long does it last?
RESTYLANE can last up to one year, depending on the area being treated, the depth of the lines, the condition of the skin and the lifestyle of the individual.

Will friends know I have had treatment ?
Due to the swelling that may occur with RESTYLANE treatments, people may notice your treatment initially, particularly if your lip area has been treated.

Does the treatment hurt ?
RESTYLANE treatment involves injections into the skin, therefore you may experience some discomfort, however local anaesthetic creams and injections can be used to minimise pain.

What are the side effects?
The side effects of RESTYLANE treatment may include swelling, redness and occasional bruising. Swelling is the most likely effect because RESYLANE attracts the bodies own water to the area. Other side effects may include minor lumps, itching or tenderness, which usually resolve quickly.

Is it toxic?
RESTYLANE is safe because it contains no animal proteins, allergens or chemicals

Can I go straight back to work after treatment?
Yes, but for a first treatment it is probably better to schedule you appointment for the end of the day and preferably the end of the week. There may be swelling or bruising.

Pre & Post Care

For the first 24 to 48 hours after treatment, redness, swelling and tenderness in the treated area is a common occurrence. The following guidelines are recommended during this time.

1. Keep the treated area free of cosmetics and avoid using moisturizers that contain AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids/Glycolics) BHA, (Beta Hydroxy Acids), or Retinoid gels or creams. A light water-based make up may be applied when necessary.
2. Apply cool compresses to the treated areas to relieve swelling.
3. Drink water regularly throughout the day.
   (8 glasses of water is recommended daily)
4. Until redness has subsided, avoid all of the following:
   • Drinking alcohol as it opens up blood vessels and may increase bruising or swelling
   • Strenuous exercise and extremes of hot and cold
   • Blood thinning medicines such as Aspirin and Disprin
   • Facials, facial waxing, Glycolic or AHA peels, Liquid Nitrogen (dry ice) or Laser treatments for 10 to 14 days after Restylane™ injections. Laser resurfacing is best done after the Restylane™ has disappeared from the skin.
5. If any lumps should occur in the treated area once swelling has subsided it is recommended that you gently massage that area with clean fingers. eded apply ice to face after treatment, wash with a gentle cleanser using cool water. Afterwards apply moisturiser and avoid the sun as much as you can. If you do venture out into the sun, wear a hat and make sure you apply a sunblock with a SPF of 30+ hourly.

Hyaluronic Acid
The skins ability to counter the effects of time, wind, weather and environmental stresses owes much to hyaluronic acid. It naturally exists in all life and its most important function is to bind water and to lubricate movable parts of the body, such as joints and muscles. Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that is identical in all species and tissues.

So far more than twenty seven million people all over the world have been treated with hyaluronic acid based products, even biodegradable implants are usually composed of hyaluronic acid.

The RESTYLANE™ treatment
A very fine needle is used to inject small amounts of Restylane™ into the skin. After the injection, the gel binds with the water in your skin and gives natural volume to smooth wrinkles. The gel blends with adjoining tissues and allows other nutritive elements, like oxygen, glucose and hormones, to pass between fragments of the gel. As the cells are also able to pass between fragments of the gel, the result is natural and healthy looking skin.

Treatment should lead to full correction, but not over correction, at each treatment session. The treated area should be gently massaged to conform to the contour of the surrounding tissue.

One treatment session takes about thirty minutes and the results are immediate. It is normal to experience slight redness and swelling near the injection site. There may also be some slight pain or tenderness and some itching near the injection site. The skin returns to normal one to two days after skin treatments and up to a week for lip treatments.
